The 90 cities that have emerged on the map of online grocery shopping in the country include Kapurthala in Punjab, Guna and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, Palwal in Haryana, Nokha and Bhiwandi in Rajasthan, Tamluk in Pt Bengal, Junagadh and Himmatnagar in Gujarat and Budhana in Maharashtra. . From Maharashtra itself, Geomart first started its services in three places near Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Thane. After the completion of the pilot project, it has now been opened to the rest of the cities in the country.
Geomart will soon expand its services, including ordering on WhatsApp and delivery from a nearby grocery store. Announcing the investment deal with Facebook, Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani had spoken of connecting the country’s 120 million farmers and 30 million grocery shop owners. This mix of unorganized grocery stores in the organized retail category will be the feature of Geomart.
With the launch, Geomart is all set to compete with other companies in the region. Most of the things available on Geomart are five percent cheaper than other similar platforms. The prices of branded goods have also been kept low. In addition to the lockdown, while some online grocery platforms are taking five to seven days to deliver, Geomart also assures delivery within two days.
According to a report released by brokerage house Credit Suisse on Geomart, the advent of Geomart will give customers across the country a useful alternative to existing companies (BigBucket, Grofers) as fewer customers in the store have led to an increase in online grocery orders. Another brokerage house CLSA has maintained its ‘buy’ advice on Reliance’s stock with a target price of Rs 1,753.38.
